The Petron Blaze Spikers remained undefeated in the ongoing 2019 Philippine Superliga Invitational Cup following their 25-22, 25-22, 25-8 sweep over the Marinerang Pilipina Skippers last Thursday at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan.
Frances Molina top-scored with 12 points, including 10 attacks; while Cherry Rondina dished out a double-double with 11 points and 19 excellent digs; Negrense outside hitter Bernadeth Pons and Ilongga opposite hitter Aiza Maizo-Pontillas each supplied nine points; Chlodia Cortez contributed eight points; and Angelica Legacion offered up 12 excellent sets.
After being pushed to the limit in the first two sets, Petron made a strong start in the third set with a 16-8 advantage and easily completed the sweep.
“‘Yung mga unang sets namin, nagkaroon kami ng errors (We had a lot of errors in the early sets),” Molina noted. “Noong third set, dinagdagan namin ‘yung atake namin, pinabilis namin at hindi kami nagkaroon ng maraming lapses (By the third set, we added to our attack, sped up, and we did not have as many lapses).”
In other results, Cignal HD Spikers also swept their opponents, scoring a 25-22, 25-19, 25-20 win over the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters; while Foton Tornadoes Blue Energy pulled off a 25-27, 25-15, 25-22, 25-11 victory over the Sta. Lucia Lady Realtors./ASC, WDJ
