A 28-year-old man was found dead over the weekend in a sugarcane field in La Castellana’s Barangay Sag-ang.
Police identified the fatality as Christian Jade Hernaez, a resident of Hacienda Hanoban 2 in the said barangay.
La Castellana municipal police chief, Police Major Robert Dejucos, said Hernaez attended a wake at Hacienda Hanoban 1 on Saturday night but failed to return home. Locals later discovered his remains at the side of a sugarcane field with a gunshot wound to the chest.
When cops interviewed residents living near the crime scene, they claimed to have heard a gunshot around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday.
A post-mortem examination of the remains found the bullet entered the victim’s chest and exited through his left armpit.
