Far Eastern University (FEU) went into overtime to pull off an 82-79 win over the University of the Philippines (UP) last Sunday in the 82nd UAAP men’s basketball season at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Kenneth Tuffin posted season-high 18 points for FEU, along with five triples; while L-Jay Gonzales tallied a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Leading by as much as 19 points early in the fourth period, UP rallied behind a Javi Gomez de Liano basket, which tied the score up at 69-all.
FEU nearly won the game but Wendell Comboy misfired his attempt at a triple.
However, in overtime, Comboy earned a chance to redeem himself and scored five points, including a fadeaway jumper that put FEU up by three with 18.3 ticks remaining.
“We told them to focus on what’s right in front of us and that’s what we did,” said FEU head coach Olsen Racela.
“We just took it possession-by-possession.”
