San Beda nears NCAA sweep after defeating Mapúa

San Beda University moved closer to sweeping the 92nd NCAA men’s basketball elimination round following their 83-55 rout of Mapúa University last Friday at the San Juan Arena.
James Canlas posted double-double for San Beda with 16 points and 10 rebounds; while Calvin Oftana drained five triples to finish with 15; and Evan Nelle contributed 14 points, eight assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
“[With] every win, the target is really getting bigger,” San Beda head coach Boyet Fernandez “I always tell my boys: Don’t think about what’s in store after this, think about our next game.”
Holding to a slim 15-13 lead after the opening period, San Beda went to work in the second behind Canlas, Oftana, and Nelle to take a 10-point lead at the half.
Into the second half, San Beda took a for a 59-37 third quarter lead before surging it to its widest margin of 28.
In the other game, Lyceum of the Philippines University scored a 83-71 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College./ASC, WDJ
