There will be several road closures across Bacolod City following the official opening of this year’s MassKara Festival, which begins today and runs until October 27. Based on the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) traffic scheme for this year’s observance, a road closure will be implemented in the downtown area.
According to BTAO head, Police Lt. Colonel Luisito Acebuche, roads between the corner of Rizal-Gatuslao Streets and Gonzaga-San Juan Streets will be closed between 4:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m.
Meanwhile, jeepney routes will also be adjusted for the festival.
Southbound public utility vehicles (PUVs) originating from Araneta Street will take a right onto Roxas Street, then turn right onto Lacson Street, turn right again on Magsaysay Street, then make a left turn onto Araneta Street; meanwhile eastbound jeepneys from Burgos Street must make a left turn onto Lacson Street, then turn right onto Gonzaga Street, turn right on Locsin Street and Galo Street, make a left onto BBB Street, and then a right onto Burgos Street.
Southeast-bound jeepneys from Hernaez Avenue will make a right onto Gatuslao Street; meanwhile, those from Barangay Taculing make take a left on Hernaez Street, right on Luzuriaga Street, right on Mabini Street, left on Margarita Street, left on Lopez-Jaena Street, and a right turn onto Hernaez Street.
Northbound PUVs must make a right turn onto Burgos Street, then make a left onto Palanca Street, left on Luzuriaga Street, right on Alunan Extension, right on Capitana Dicang Road, left on Roxas Street, left on Lacson Street, right on Lizares Street. They then proceed to Hernaez Street, where they will make a left onto Locsin Street, left on Rizal Street, right on Gatuslao Street, right on North Capitol Road, left on Aguinaldo Street, right on BS Aquino Drive, and then make a left onto Lacson Street.
Acebuche noted, a road closure will be implemented along Father M. Ferrero by the Bacolod Vendors’ Plaza.
The BTAO head added, a separate traffic rerouting scheme will be implemented in the downtown area during the festival highlights, from October 25 to 27.
He explained, a road closure will be implemented at the Tourism Street along Lacson Street, while Gatuslao and Aguinaldo Streets will be running one-way.
Meanwhile, 390 traffic enforces and barangay tanods will be deployed across the city during the festival.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. tonight at the Bacolod Public Plaza./DGB, WDJ
