Energy Development Corporation integrated planned head Jay Soriano said, in order for more development with renewable energy in the Philippines, along with the push to making it the country’s primary energy source, more support is needed for the sector.
“The renewable energy sector needs support from government, private sector, and the public,” he said. “If you look at statistics, the Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change.”
“We all have to do our part,” he added.
Soriano also pointed out, Indonesia has overtaken the Philippines in terms of renewable energy development.
“Indonesia has 25,000-megawatt geothermal potential while the Philippines has only between 5,000 to 10,000 megawatts,” he explained./DGB, WDJ
