A goal from striker OJ Porteria broke a 1-1 deadlock to secure Ceres-Negros FC a 2-1 win over Green Archers United last Wednesday in the ongoing 2019 Philippines Football League (PFL) at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa City, Batangas. The three points keeps the Negrense club atop the PFL table, moving closer to earning a third-straight league title.
After forward Robert Lopez Mendy put the Bacolod City-based side on the board in the second minute, it was a fairly quiet affair until Green Archers midfielder John Celiz found an equalizer in the 71st minute. Five minutes later, Porteria slotted in the decisive winner.
“I’m just very proud of the team,” the Ceres striker said. “We don’t feel that we won the league already because we still have games left; our task, now, is to win every single game that we have.”
The Negrense club leads currently leads second place Kaya FC-Iloilo, 53 points to 44. In their match, the latter drew a 10-man Mendiola FC, 0-0./ASC, WDJ
