The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) validating team gave Iloilo City an 83 percent on its road clearing operations, which is above the 70 percent passing rate set by the government agency.
According to DILG-Iloilo City director Roy Defiño, 50 percent of the ratings are based on clearing operations while the remaining portion is incumbent on a variety of factors, including city ordinances, rehabilitations plans, among other criteria.
The rating is lower than the 95 percent projected by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas and the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office. In response, Task Force on Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures head Love Joy Hosenilla said 83 percent means their operations were “a success.”
However, the city official did acknowledge operations needed to continue in some barangays due to remaining obstructions, such as vehicles blocking roads, and suggested the city pass an ordinance regulating on-road parking.
Bacolod City’s validation began yesterday and is expected to conclude today./WDJ
