The Bacolod Master Sardines suffered an 82-78 defeat to the Parañaque Patriots earlier this week in the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Lakan Cup at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.
Bacolod opened with a 22-19 edge off inside hits from newcomer Jessie Saitanan but Parañaque eventually managed to make it a one-point game at the half.
Into the third quarter, Parañaque’s Jemal Vizcarra and Jayboy Solis outscored the Bacolodnons 30-18 and built a 14-point lead in the fourth.
Bacolod mounted a rally behind Nico Paolo Javelona and Mark Tallo and trimmed the deficit to 81-75; however, a free throw by Keith Pido sealed the win for Parañaque.
Vizcarra finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Solis chipped in 15 markers and nine rebounds, and James Patrick Abugan contributed 13 points.
Despite the loss Javelona top-scored for Bacolod with 20 points; Saitanan and Tallo each added 12 markers; while Jerick Canada notched a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists./ASC, WDJ
