Amid ongoing concerns surrounding African swine fever, along with various localities issuing bans on the entry of certain pork products, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia recently issued an executive order barring various pork products, including live pigs and pork by-products, from Luzon. According to the order, the ban will last for a period of 90 days effective October 1.
The order also made note of the countries identified by the Provincial Veterinary Office as having recorded cases of African swine fever. They mentioned areas in Africa, Europe and Asia, including China, Vietnam, Mongolia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, North Korea. Russia, South Korea, among others.
Earlier this week, San Carlos City issued a similar order, citing the 90-day ban previously issued by Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.
Last month, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr. also issued an executive order banning the entry of swine, pork, pork products, and pork by-products from areas affected by the disease./DGB, WDJ
