The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has temporarily suspended the M/V Millennium Uno roll-on/roll-off vessel following an earlier engine room fire while berthed at the Bredco Port in Bacolod City.
PCG-Bacolod station commander, Lt. Senior Grade Rockcliff Buling, said a faulty electrical wire from the vessel’s panel board is the suspected cause of the blaze.
He explained, the shipping company will need to pass several requirements before regaining their certificate of seaworthiness.
The PCG official added, the operator will need to fix the vessel’s electrical wire and engines.
Last week, crew members of the M/V Millennium Uno were conducting checks in preparation for a late afternoon trip to Dumangas, Iloilo when a fire started inside the engine room.
Some of the crew were evacuated off the ship, while others tried to douse the flames.
Firefighters from the Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection soon arrived and assisted the remaining crew members.
Buling said no one was injured in the incident as the ship had yet to allow boarding of passengers and vehicles./DGB, WDJ
