A father and his son were killed following a fire last Friday afternoon in Bago City’s Barangay Bacong. Authorities identified the fatalities as 24-year-old Rolyn Alapar and his four-year-old son, who they requested not be named.
Bago City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) arson investigator, Fire Officer 3 Rudy Geroche, said, based on their investigation, Alapar allegedly started the fire and trapped himself and his son inside the burning home.
The BFP official said they still do not know why Alapar set the house on fire but, based on a separate investigation carried out by Bago City police, the father may have been experiencing marital problems with his wife.
Bago City deputy police chief, Police Lieutenant Leonyl Adolacion, said they have reviewed previous records and found Alapar’s wife filed a complaint last year claiming she was being physically abused by her husband.
Adolacion said, prior to his wife leaving to work in Saudia Arabia, the two were involved in a heated argument.
Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo, meanwhile, has directed the local social welfare office to process the surviving family’s financial assistance./DGB, WDJ
