A roll-on/roll-off vessel was left damaged yesterday afternoon after a fire broke out in its engine room while berthed at the Bredco Port in Bacolod City.
Philippine Coast Guard-Bacolod station commander, Lt. Senior Grade Rockcliff Buling, said the M/V Millennium Uno, which is operated by Millenium Shipping Lines, was conducting checks in preparation for a late afternoon trip to Dumangas, Iloilo.
As crew members were conducting checks on the panel board, a fire started inside the engine room.
Some of the crew were evacuated off the ship, while others tried to douse the flames.
Firefighters from the Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection soon arrived and assisted the remaining crew members.
Buling said no one was injured in the incident as the ship had yet to allow boarding of passengers and vehicles.
In addition, the 30 crew members were all accounted for.
He added, they are now looking into what caused the fire./DGB, WDJ
