Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo recently urged residents of the town’s far-flung barangays to plant fruits and vegetables instead of sugarcane.
The mayor explained, “Fruit trees and vegetables entail less production costs unlike sugarcane, where one has to contend with high cost of production as well as with labor expenses.”
She also said the planting of fruit trees will preserve the local watershed, which will eventually address water woes.
Garcia-Yulo pointed out, during an earlier dialogue, local farmers aired concerns regarding a lack of water supply.
She said, residents in the area are currently getting water from a deep well.
The mayor added, the local government can provide fertilizer and seedlings./DGB, WDJ
