San Beda secures semifinal berth

Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) snapped a 10-game losing streak in the 95th NCAA men’s basketball season yesterday with a 79-75 win over San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSC-R) at the San Juan Arena.
The victory, however, was not flawless as they squandered a 12-point advantage and allowed SSC-R to tie up the game at 73-73 with just over a minute left.
JP Maguliano managed to put EAC up 75-73 on an inside basket before Marwin Taywan put the game away with two free throws.
Meanwhile, last Thursday, San Beda University secured a semifinal berth after their 75-62 win over the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA-Atlas at the San Juan Arena.
Donald Tankoua finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds for San Beda, while Calvin Oftana flirted with a double-double off 17 markers and nine boards.
However, Amiel Cris Soberano delivered final quarter heroics for San Beda and widened their 50-46 edge to a 70-53 advantage.
In other results that day, Mapúa University scored a 72-65 victory over Jose Rizal University./ASC, WDJ
