The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Negros Occidental has begun monitoring the progress made by city and municipal governments on their respective road-clearing operations.
In a radio report by RMN-DYHB Bacolod yesterday morning, Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo reported an 80 percent compliance. He was followed by Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante, who claimed his locality was 90 to 95 percent compliant with the DILG memorandum circular.
Meanwhile, Kabankalan City Mayor Pedro Zayco said they are 70 to 75 compliant.
With the deadline set for today, the provincial DILG has set up a validation team to inspect towns and cities.
Earlier, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson entrusted the local DILG to ensure road-clearing operations along the province’s cities and municipalities are carried out by their respective local officials.
Lacson had also ordered the Provincial Engineer’s Office to check for and remove illegal structures along the roads leading to the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City’s Barangay Mansilingan as he recently discovered the roads leading to the park are considered “provincial roads.”/DGB, WDJ
