Governor backs modernization
Jade Seballos, public relations officer for Vallacar Transit Incorporated, parent company of the Ceres bus liner, announced the firm would not be participating in the upcoming nationwide transport strike, which will take place on Monday, September 30.
She affirmed all Ceres operations across the country will proceed as normal.
“We will not join the strike,” Seballos stated.
The transport sector is protesting the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program, which Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson recently voiced support for.
“There are several jeepneys that really need to be modernized,” he explained. “I hope the government would find ways to assist the drivers and operators to modernize.”
The governor noted, with Ceres not taking part in the demonstration, they will be making assessments of the situation and hopes to find intervention proposals that may call off the strike locally./DGB, WDJ
