Around 2,050 senior high school students applied for the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Undergraduate Science and Technology Scholarship. The scholarship looks to hone student skills in science and technology skills, among other related subjects.
DOST provincial director, Engr. Allan Francis Daraug said the number of applicants has risen through the years, noting, in 2017, there were 900 applicants.
“Student applicants are very much aware of the value and benefits of venturing into scientific careers,” he pointed out.
The scholarships cover tuition, fees, and group insurance; along with providing allowances for books, transportation, uniforms, and post-graduation clothing.
Upon completion of their degree, scholarship recipients are obliged to render service to the country over a period of time relative to the span in which they were awarded the scholarship./WDJ
