San Carlos City informs residents on African swine fever

At least 90 representatives from various sectors in San Carlos City took part in an orientation on the spread of African Swine Fever earlier this week. Among those attending the orientation included representatives from the city’s 18 barangays, Central Philippine State University students, hog raisers, farm owners, paravets and technicians, among others.
City veterinarian, Dr. Jeff Reonal, discussed the effects of the disease on the economy and preventive measures the city has undertaken to prevent the disease from entering the community.
He told participants to buy pork meat that has undergone inspection by the slaughterhouse department and to stop feeding hogs with pigswill.
In addition, Universal Feed Mill Corporation extension veterinarian, Dr. Donna Lyn Gabay, and Negros Occidental Bureau of Animal Industry Veterinary Quarantine Services veterinarian, Dr. Ma. Lee Calunsod, served as resource speakers and spoke on biosecurity methods and animal quarantine./DGB, WDJ
