The City Legal Office-City Enforcement Unit demolished 97 illegal structures belonging to ‘Masa Mart’ vendors yesterday morning at Bacolod City’s Central Market.
Markets cluster head, Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, said the demolition was conducted following a five-day grace period extended to vendors for them to vacate their kiosks.
The period ended last Tuesday.
Several vendors raised concerns that the city proceeded with demolitions despite not having space to accommodate them as the Bacolod Vendors’ Plaza is still undergoing rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said the city realigned a P5 million budget from the building fund, which is being used for the rehabilitation of the plaza./DGB, WDJ
