“…For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for the salvation of all who believe…” –Romans 1:16
Johannes Organo Comia is a Metro Manila-based Grab driver who lives up to a code of prompt service, untainted honesty, and unadulterated truth. I recently utilized his services on a trip to Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Arriving at Terminal 2, I got out, retrieved my luggage, and entered the airport. However, I realized my clutch bag, which contained my identification and cash, was not with me. I immediately called the driver. Before I finished my story, he said “Yes” and confirmed he had the bag. He returned to the airport and I got my bag back.
A lack of discipline among Filipino drivers is the real reason Metro Manila is currently experiencing its most harrowing episodes in traffic management. According to Organo Comia, many Filipino drivers have become too ill-mannered and selfish; they always want to be ahead of other drivers. Drivers also refuse to wait their turn in line and cut off other motorists, which contributed to the worsening traffic situation.
Organo Comia claimed, after indicating he has experience working overseas, he never saw the kind of rude, bad mannered, and totally greedy style of driving witnessed by many of his colleagues. He even said he does not agree when foreigners say Filipinos are a bunch of good people.
“Can someone who is good be lacking in self-discipline?” he asked.
I asked him why drivers have become this way. I wasn’t surprised when he was unable to give an answer. I told him there is one reason: the devil. The devil is in control of a great number of Filipinos today because they no longer have any training and instruction on the word of God.
Organo Comia smiled in response.
