Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson recently ordered the Provincial Engineer’s Office to check for and remove illegal structures along the roads leading to the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City’s Barangay Mansilingan. According to Lacson, he “just discovered” the roads leading to the park are considered “provincial roads,” which are part of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) memorandum circular.
The governor also entrusted the matter to the DILG-Negros Occidental in order to ensure road clearing operations along the province’s cities and municipalities are carried out by their respective local officials.
Earlier, the DILG in Bacolod City said they would be conducting random inspections across the city ahead of the deadline, which is set for tomorrow.
DILG-Bacolod Director Ma. Joy Marideth Madayag said validating teams will check if the submitted documentation are correct and compliant with the DILG memorandum.
Madayag said barangay and city officials must take the clearing operations seriously as the DILG regional office will be closely monitoring highly-urbanized cities first. She also encouraged the public to send pictures of illegal structures and other road obstructions to their official social media page./DGB, WDJ
