Moises Padilla Mayor Ella Garcia-Yulo yesterday sought assistance from Negros Occidental fifth district Rep. Marilou Arroyo and Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson in addressing road network complaints raised by local residents, particularly in far-flung areas of town.
Road conditions are among the major concerns in Barangay Macagahay, one of the most remote barangays in town.
“We have to let them feel that the government is going to them, make them feel the presence of the government in their area,” the mayor said during a recent land title distribution event.
Garcia-Yulo said improving the local road network is vital for both transportation and in emergency situations and acknowledged the primary mode of transportation in the community is still motorcycle-powered vehicle known locally as ‘habal habal.’
The mayor also said she is seeking assistance for a 12-kilometer road connecting Barangays Crossing Magallon and Guipanaan and hoping for it to be converted into a national road in order for it to be eligible for national funding.
She said local funds are not enough to address the road problems and has called on Lacson to increase funding./DGB, WDJ
