Two minors were declared dead after drowning in an under construction drainage hole, while two others were hospitalized, Sunday afternoon at Purok Star Apple in Bacolod City’s Barangay 27.
Authorities identified the fatalities as 10-year-old Adrian Bagundol and six-year-old Robert Porcino. The two hospitalized were six-year-old Edgardo Monserati and eight-year-old Paul Soquiño.
There was also another minor involved in the incident but survived without the need for treatment.
According to eyewitness accounts, the minors were taking a bath inside the flooded drainage hole when four of the victims drowned. The fifth victim climbed out and called for help. Locals eventually retrieved the four victims and rushed them to the hospital for treatment, where the two were declared dead on arrival.
According to Police Station 4 (PS4) commander, Police Lieutenant Rondyl Tapang, based on their investigation, guards of the Megaworld Corporation-owned property often saw the minors enter the area to shoot birds. The police official said the minors easily entered the development site even though the company installed barbed wire along the area.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued by Megaworld Corporation Chief Strategy Officer Kevin Tan, he said they are willing to offer assistance to the families of the victims and plan to step up security measures./DGB, WDJ
