Joel Wright came up with clutch baskets for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters during their 96-90 win over the Columbian Dyip in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Rain or Shine forward converted three straight inside baskets and turned an 89-87 deficit into a 93-89 advantage. He and Eduardo Daquioag sealed the win with free throws.
Wright finished with a double-double on 30 points and 10 rebounds, Rey Nambatac added 17 markers, while Chris Exciminiano and Javee Mocon each contributed 10 points.
The Painters surged to a 23-14 first quarter edge on baskets from Wright and Nambatac.
Despite the Dyip countering with a run in the second period and taking a 40-35 edge, triples from Nambatac knotted the score at 44-all.
The Dyip gained a slight edge in the third but the Painters responded and took a 74-68 edge behind Wright and Daquioag. The Dyip kept the match close before taking the lead for the last time, pulling ahead 89-87 on a Juan Miguel Tiongson basket./ASC, WDJ
