A house was destroyed following a late Sunday night fire at Purok DC-1 in Phase 2 of the Regent Pearl Homes Subdivision in Bacolod City’s Barangay Alijis. Based on information provided by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started around 11:45 p.m. when a house rented by Danny Losbanez went ablaze.
Residents living beside the burning house immediately evacuated.
Losbanez also tried entering the home in order to save some belongings but was forced back due to the heat.
Firefighters from the BFP and the Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigade arrived within minutes and immediately doused the flames. Some residents also helped by using buckets to throw water onto the fire.
As firefighters were battling the blaze, local media managed to spot a Chamber Fire Brigade firefighter, later identified as Albert Mendoza, trying to revive a puppy that was nearly caught in the blaze.
Mendoza applied cardiopulmonary resuscitation, or CPR, to the puppy for about three minutes, until it was successfully revived. The puppy was then returned back to its owner.
Mendoza said it is possible the puppy was also trying to escape the fire and may have stepped on a live electrical wire, which electrocuted the dog and knocked it unconscious.
BFP, meanwhile, has yet to determine what caused the blaze as well as the estimated cost of damage./DGB, WDJ
