A portion of the ceiling at the Simplicio A. Palanca Sea Terminal, located at the Bredco Port in Bacolod City, collapsed yesterday afternoon.
Jerry Jimeno, one of the witnesses who spoke to Watchmen Daily Journal, said the incident occurred around 3:00 p.m.
He said he was waiting for the arrival of a family member when the ceiling near the check-in entrance of the Manila departure area suddenly collapsed.
Jimeno said passengers and employees inside the facility immediately evacuated as they believe an earthquake had just occurred.
Port employees and security barred entry to members of the media, along with prohibiting photos and video from being taken. However, local media witnessed port employees removing debris and loading them onto a waiting dump truck.
No one was injured in the incident.
Bredco port officials have yet to make a formal statement as of press time.
The incident was the second recorded this year after an earlier collapse last May, which was attributed to heavy rains and a leak on the terminal roof./DGB, WDJ
