A delegation from the Iloilo City government comprised of representatives from various related agencies recently completed a disaster preparedness study tour in Taiwan. According to City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head Donna Magno, the study visit intended to provide key personnel with operational framework as they develop concepts for the Iloilo City Disaster Operations Center.
The city government signed an agreement with the Gaisano Capital Group earlier this month to establish the Iloilo City Action and Response (I-CARE) Center, an emergency operations center is being planned for the facility. The structure will be situated on a 375-square meter lot in Iloilo City’s Mandurriao district and is expected to house the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office, police stations, and fire stations.
In addition, Iloilo City emergency responders underwent an international trauma life support training course, which helps prevent death and disability from trauma through education and emergency trauma care.
Meanwhile, the Kahublagan sa Barangay para sa Lapnagon nga Kahandaan sa Kalamidad program launched a school caravan to educate young people.
“This initiative was established based on what we have learned while studying disaster risk reduction,” Magno explained. “One of the reasons is we want to share to the public, especially children, to educate them to be prepared anytime.”
The program included interactive games, storytelling, and other creative means to promote a culture of safety and resilience./WDJ
