Adamson University pulled off a come-from-behind 78-71 win over the University of Santo Tomas yesterday in the 82nd UAAP men’s basketball season at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Opening the fourth period down by double digits, Adamson rode on consecutive points from Valandre Chauca and surged to a 72-71 lead with under a minute remaining in the game.
After Jerrick Ahanmisi provided a layup, along nailing free throws together with Jerome Lastimosa, Adamson earned their biggest lead at 78-71.
Chauca finished with 18 points, eight assists, and six rebounds; while Ahanmisi added 24 points.
In the other game, the University of the Philippines (UP) scored a narrow 80-79 win over National University (NU).
Holding a 78-71 edge with over two minutes left, UP were rattled by a furious run by NU, which cut the deficit to 80-79. NU had a chance to snatch the win but John Lloyd Clemente’s 15-foot jumper fell short as the final buzzer sounded.
Kobe Paras tallied 25 points, six rebounds, and two assists for UP; while Bright Akhuetie earned a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds./ASC, WDJ
