Sagay City celebrated the 4th Marang Festival earlier this month, from September 5 to 7, with a goal of making the city’s Barangay Colonia Divina a tourist attraction.
“Colonia Divina will be a tourist attraction and the city government sees big potential in the community as you can create many products through marang,” affirmed former City Councilor Jose Frange, who currently serves as executive assistant to Mayor Alfredo Marañon III.
He also highlighted the near-completion of a 13-kilometer barangay road, which passes through Barangays Bato, Baviera, and Colonia Divina, as the city official believes the infrastructure will help the marang industry “prosper.”
According to the city engineer’s office, about 10.8 kilometers are already completed.
During the celebration, a Marang Village was set-up, which featured a variety of delicacies made from the fruit; while an all-you-can-eat marang event also took place.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation disbursed P131,000 in indemnity claims, or compensation for losses, to 30 beneficiaries.
In addition, the Department of Agrarian Reform distributed four hectares of land to six farmer-beneficiaries./WDJ
