The Iloilo City Sangguniang Panlungsod yesterday approved a resolution endorsing a proposal to establish a law school at West Visayas State University (WVSU). The university currently has a pending application with the Legal Education Board to open the school.
Currently, only private schools in the region provide curriculum towards the attainment of a Juris Doctor degree and, according to City Councilor Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon, who sponsored the resolution, “As a chartered public higher education institution, the WVSU is mandated to provide high quality tertiary education to the needs of the people and society.”
“WVSU attracts and accommodates financially challenged but academically able students,” the resolution noted. “WVSU continues to grow as the lead institution of higher learning in the Western Visayas through the advancement of knowledge in instruction, research, and extension.”
WVSU started as the Iloilo Normal School in 1902./WDJ
