City government allocates P25M

The Iloilo City government recently allocated P25 million for next year’s Dinagyang Festival. “Let us help to make sure Dinagyang will be far better, hopefully, with unity and cooperation,” said Mayor Jerry P. Treñas after signing a memorandum of agreement with the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI).
The funding will be disbursed in phases with P15 million going out between next month and December, and the remaining amount released in January 2020.
Earlier this year, after the Iloilo City government had been working with the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. and Parish of San Jose de Placer in organizing the annual Iloilo Dinagyang Festival for the past several years, along with other city celebrations, Treñas confirmed he would be installing new management citing the outgoing organizers’ “style.”
“It is about time that we organize a foundation that will handle Dinagyang and other festivals of the city,” he said.
President Rodrigo Duterte’s partner Honeylet Avanceña will be this year’s guest of honor during the festival highlights on January 26./WDJ
