Two truckloads of Vietnamese rice was intercepted over the weekend by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) sub-station at the Barcelona Port in Escalante City’s Barangay Old Poblacion. The shipment had arrived from Cebu and was declared as “animal feed.”
PCG-Negros Occidental station chief, Lt. Commmader Rockcliff Buling, said the vehicles carrying a total of 600 sacks of imported rice were caught by PCG personnel during routine inspections of Roll-on/Roll-off vessels plying the Cebu-Escalante City route.
“It was discovered that it was declared as ‘animal feed’ in the manifesto and it had no required customs declaration,” Buling added.
Joel Taganili of the PCG-Escalante sub-station said they also discovered the manifesto did not contain the name of the supplier and consignee.
The wing van trucks are now under the custody of the Escalante City PCG as an investigation is ongoing./DGB, WDJ
