A 2.3-magnitude earthquake was recorded early yesterday morning in Guimaras. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the tremor struck at 1:43 a.m. with an epicenter pinpointed just north of Jordan.
A subsequent Phivolcs bulletin reported no damages as a result of the quake nor were there aftershocks expected.
Last June, two minor 1.7-magnitude earthquakes were detected in the Western Visayas with the first one striking Nueva Valencia, Guimaras and, less than 25 minutes later, the second was recorded in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.
In the prior month, a 1.8-magnitude earthquake was also recorded south of Nueva Valencia.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
