A fisherman was successfully rescued over the weekend after his boat capsized near the coast of San Carlos City.
Authorities identified the victim as 68-year-old Luciano Jakosalem, a resident of the Parola section in the city’s Barangay 6.
In a statement given by Jakosalem to members of the Philippine Coast Guard and the San Carlos City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, as soon as he went out to fish, he encountered strong waves, which caused his boat to capsize.
Bystanders then immediately alerted authorities and Jakosalem was pulled out from the water.
He was later rushed to the city’s district hospital and was reportedly discharged later that day.
The city government had earlier warned small vessels to not go out to sea due to a gale warning issued over the coastline of Negros Occidental over the weekend./DGB, WDJ
