A frog collector was killed after reportedly being shot by four unidentified men at a quarry site in Bacolod City’s Barangay Alangilan over the weekend. Meanwhile, the victim’s nephew managed to escape.
Police identified the fatality as Ryan Delgado, a resident of the said barangay; while the victim’s nephew, a minor, whom police have requested not to identify, was unharmed.
According to the statement by the victim’s mother and nephew, the two visited the quarry site to catch frogs. As they were going home late Saturday evening, they encountered four unidentified armed men wearing masks. The assailants then ordered the two to strip down to their underwear, tied their hands to the back, and made to lie face down on the ground.
The victims were reportedly asked to identify themselves and were accused of stealing several items of equipment from the quarry.
One of the men shot Delgado in the back of his head and neck, while the minor got up and ran away.
Three of them tried shooting the minor but the other gunman told them to hold their fire.
The minor hid in a grassy area for the rest of the evening and emerged the following morning to report the incident to police.
Police Station 5 commander, Police Captain Romulo Gepilango, said Delgado does not have any previous criminal record with their station and the local barangay.
He also said the victim is not on their drugs watchlist.
Authorities are presently investigating the killing./DGB, WDJ
