Ten college students were arrested over the weekend after they were caught smoking marijuana inside a convenience store along La Salle Avenue in Bacolod City’s Barangay Villamonte.
Police Station 4 (PS4) commander Police Lieutenant Rondyl Tapang, requested anonymity for the suspects pending the filing of criminal charges.
According to Tapang, several concerned citizens visited their station to complain about an odor coming from the said area. When PS4 sent police to patrol, they found 10 men holding one marijuana cigarette, along with one in possession of dried marijuana leaves.
Police immediately arrested the 10, who were later discovered to be college students.
Police recovered a total of 2.7 grams of marijuana valued at almost P900.
The 10 are presently detained at PS4 on drug-related charges.
Last week, an estimated 1.5 kilograms of marijuana was seized following a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency buy-bust operation in Bacolod City’s Barangay Mandalagan.
PDEA agents identified the arrested suspect as 29-year-old Vergilio Rivera, Jr., a resident of the city’s Barangay Pahanocoy.
According to PDEA agents, they arrested Rivera after he allegedly sold marijuana to an undercover agent outside a bar in the area./DGB, WDJ
