A minor 1.7-magnitude earthquake was recorded Friday afternoon in Silay City.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletin (Phivolcs), the tremor struck just before 3:00 p.m. with an epicenter pinpointed north of the Negros Occidental city.
A subsequent Phivolcs bulletin reported no damage was caused by the incident nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.
Meanwhile, the other side of the island was struck by two earthquakes the previous day.
A 2.3-magnitude quake was recorded Thursday morning, around 6:49 a.m., just south of Santa Catalina; while a 2.5-magnitude tremor struck that night, at 11:05 p.m., just north of Manjuyod.
No damage was reported nor were there any expected aftershocks for either Negros Oriental locality.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
