Mayor warns of suspension, dismissal

Iloilo City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas recently issued a warning to traffic aides seen standing along the side of the road.
“I don’t want to see any traffic aides on the side of the street,” he said. “The reason you are there is to command at the center!”
“If ever I see one, I will suspend him for a month,” the mayor added. “The next time, I will dismiss him.”
Treñas also noted the additional police auxiliary forces currently deployed to the city.
“We have many police auxiliaries,” he explained. “ I want to deploy them in strategic areas to assure public safety.”
Meanwhile, after the city government signed an agreement with the Gaisano Capital Group earlier this month to establish the Iloilo City Action and Response (I-CARE) Center, an emergency operations center is being planned for the facility.
The mayor said the I-CARE Center will serve to create a “better, resilient, adaptive, and sustainable city.”
The structure will be situated on a 375-square meter lot in Iloilo City’s Mandurriao district and is expected to house the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Public Safety and Transportation Management Office, police stations, and fire stations.
The mayor previously said he hopes to erect similar facilities in the city’s other districts./WDJ
