Jenel Lausa of Concepcion, Iloilo recently took home the Global Boxing Organization (GBO) Asia-Pacific bantamweight title after a fifth round stoppage win over Indonesian fighter Carlos Lopez at Rizal Park in Digos City, Davao del Sur.
The bout was the second professional boxing title for the Ilonggo fighter, who previously held the Philippine Boxing Federation super bantamweight belt. It was also the Ilonggo boxer’s third consecutive victory since making his return to the ring after spending a few years as a mixed martial artist.
Lausa set the pace in the opening round as he pummeled Lopez with combination hits before going for the kill in the fifth round and flooring his foe with a straight.
“All glory to God,” Lausa said after the match. “I am glad that I was able to win the GBO championship.”
“I am also grateful to be able to face a great fighter in Carlos Lopez,” he added.
With the victory, the Pinoy fighter improved his unblemished record to 10-0-1 win-loss-draw, including six stoppage wins; while Lopez dropped to 28-10-0 record with nine knockout wins./ASC, WDJ
