The Western Visayas was struck by two earthquakes recently with a 2.0-magnitude tremor striking south of Tapaz, Capiz on Monday afternoon, while a 1.6-magnitude quake struck Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental later that evening.
The Tapaz quake struck just before 6:30 p.m. with the Negros Oriental earthquake recorded at 8:53 p.m.
Subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletins reported no damages as a result of either earthquake nor were there aftershocks anticipated.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
