PHL meets Guam today
By Adrian Stewart Co

After opening the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds with a 5-2 loss to Syria last week, the Philippine men’s football team, the Azkals, hope to bounce back today when they face Guam at the Guam FA Field
“We lost against Syria and they are a good team,” said Azkals assistant team manager Scott Cooper. “After that defeat, the worst thing we can do is overreact.”
“We were brave; we went out and got on the front foot,” he added. “We just didn’t have the know-how and the intellect to maintain that.”
Meanwhile, Ceres-Negros FC midfielder Stephan Schröck, who serves as team captain, said their game against Syria was technically on par.
“If you look at the stats, we were not far from the other team and we took the game to them,” he said. “Unfortunately for us, the striker of Syria had a ‘golden boot.’”
Guam also opened their qualifying campaign with a loss, falling 1-0 to Maldives./ASC, WDJ
