Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) has yet to receive any order to re-arrest those released under RA 10592, an amendment to the Revised Penal Code referred to as the “Good Conduct Time Allowance Law.”

In a radio interview with Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod yesterday, PRO-6 spokesperson, Lt. Colonel Joem Malong, said they are waiting for an official communication from the Philippine National Police to track down the freed convicts.
She noted, there is a list of 1,914 individuals that have been released based on the law that is being verified to determine if any of them are from Region VI.
Meanwhile, despite no official communication, Malong said they can still re-arrest convicts if local police monitor their presence in a certain area.
The law recently came to light after it was revealed convicted rapist-murderer Antonio Sanchez, former mayor of Calauan, Laguna, was set to be released for “good conduct.”
He was sentenced to seven life sentences for the murder of two University of the Philippines-Los Baños students in 1995. One of the victims was also reportedly raped by Sanchez and his henchmen.
President Rodrigo Duterte later ordered Sanchez to remain in prison as the law was temporarily suspended pending an amendment by lawmakers./DGB, WDJ
