Parked cars slowed response time

A Thursday night fire left a home heavily damaged at Purok DC-3 in Bacolod City’s Barangay Alijis.
Authorities identified the owner of the house as Rafael Estores.
Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection arson investigator, Fire Officer 2 Carlo Vincent Mallari, said they received a ‘fire call’ around 7:42 p.m.
The BFP, along with response teams from the Amity and Chamber Volunteer Fire Brigades, rushed to the scene.
Firefighters were initially delayed due to the narrow roads leading the area as several parked vehicles made it difficult for fire trucks to pass.
BFP also threatened to ram some of the vehicles after owners were slow to comply.
Firefighters eventually reached the burning home and managed to eliminate the blaze within minutes.
Mallari said the blaze started at a nipa hut used by Estores’ cousin.
The hut was quickly torched by the blaze and traveled into the home, destroying all belongings inside.
BFP estimated damages at P50,000, although Mallari said it may still increase once they receive Estores’ affidavit of loss.
He added, no one was hurt in the blaze, which they determined was caused by a faulty electrical wire inside the hut./DGB, WDJ
