The Mindoro Tamaraws delivered a narrow 70-68 win over the Iloilo United Royals earlier this week in the ongoing Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League at the Bataan People’s Center in Balanga City.
Mindoro led by six after the first half before Iloilo went on a run behind Richard Escoto to flip the game and earn a six point advantage after the third quarter.
Into the final period, Mindoro went on a 12-2 run and led 65-59 following a Nicol Bolos conversion; however, a Donald Gumaru triple later made it a one-point game, with Iloilo down 67-66.
After a Sandy Cenal triple then put Minodoro up 70-66 with 29 seconds left in the game, two free throws by Iloilo’s Al Francis Tamsi brought the game to 70-68. However, a late turnover by the Ilonggo side sealed the win for Mindoro./ASC, WDJ
