Angola beats PHL in overtime

The Philippine men’s national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas, prolonged their losing streak in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup yesterday with an 84-81 overtime defeat to Angola at the Foshan International Sports and Cultural Center in China.
The Philippines managed to come back from a 12-point deficit with Jaymar Perez, Japeth Aguilar, Roger Pogoy, and Kiefer Ravena contributing to a 69-65 edge in the fourth quarter. However, Angola rallied and took a 73-70 lead with less than two minutes left in the game.
A three-pointer from Perez forced the game into overtime.
Gilas took the lead anew after a basket from Pogoy and free throw by Andray Blatche put them up 76-73, but seven straight points by Angola surged them ahead 80-76. They went on to extend their lead to 83-78 with 31 seconds left as Pogoy managed to narrow the gap to 83-81.
After Angola split free throws, the Philippines had a chance to force another extension period but Perez misfired his attempt at a triple.
Joaquim Valdelicio tallied 20 points for Angola, while Reggie Moore and Yanick Moreira each contributed 12 points, Carlos Morais – 11, and Jaques Conceicao – 10.
Despite the loss, Blatche finished with a double-double for Gilas on 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Perez scored 17 points, and Robert Bolick, Jr. contributed 10 markers.
