Every September is recognized as World Alzheimer’s Month, which raises awareness about the degenerative disorder that affects brain cells.
According to the Mayo Clinic, early signs of the disease include memory difficulties, which may lead to challenges with concentration, reasoning, and performing routine tasks.
“Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias can seriously affect a person’s ability to carry out daily activities,” said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on their website. “The risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease increases with age, but Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging.”
The CDC also noted, while scientists do not know what causes Alzheimer’s disease, controlling high blood pressure, exercising regularly, and quitting smoking are some of the ways to avoid developing the disease./WDJ
