According to the Bureau of Immigration (BI), the four Indian nationals apprehended last week in San Carlos City are facing deportation. The illegal aliens, identified as Manjot Singh, Mandeep Singh, Boota Singh, and Gurpreet Singh, were brought to the bureau’s attention after receiving complaints regarding alleged ‘5-6’ lending activity.
“All four were later brought to the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa pending their deportation proceedings,” noted BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr.
BI Intelligence Officer Jude Hinolan, who led the arresting team, revealed Mandeep Singh was found to have overstayed his visa, while Manjot Singh faces deportation for harboring an illegal alien.
“Under the immigration act, to harbor, employ or give comfort to overstaying or illegally staying alien in the country is a serious offense,” Hinolan explained.
The other two were discovered in a nearby community and were unable to show any valid documentation.
Earlier this year, President Rodrigo Duterte condemned the practice of ‘5-6.’
“Ang gusto kong patayin na sistema (I would like to kill the ‘5-6’ system),” he stated. “Kung hindi ko mapatay ang sistema, ‘yung nagdadala ng 5-6 na lang ang ating patayin (If I am unable to kill the system, we’re just kill the ‘5-6’).”/WDJ
