Bacolodnon taekwondo
athletes earn seven medals
Taekwondo athletes from Bacolod City earned a total of seven medals at the 2019 Batang Pinoy national finals in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. The winners took home medals from both poomsae events, which are comprised of basic attack and defense motions associated with the martial art; and kyorugi events, a demonstration of sparring.
Andee Rodriguez delivered the lone gold medal in the kyorugi event in the junior female finweight category, while Miguel Zapata captured silver in the cadet male finweight division and Arielle Beronio won silver in the cadet female featherweight category.
Meanwhile, Jamie Hannah Agaloos won two silvers in poomsae events, medaling in the junior female individual category and junior female mixed team alongside Ma. Charlize Subardiaga and Lexine Lapu-os.
In addition, Arthur Diaz won bronze in the poomsae events, winning in the junior male individual division and junior mixed pair with Lapu-os.
In other competitions, Paulaine Miyu Kalaw, also from Bacolod City, won gold in karateka after winning the 8-9 year old advanced kata competition, which presents specific movement patterns and choreography.
The karateka team also won several bronze medals including Shifra Medina – 14-15 year old intermediate kata; Medina, Nichole Margarette Piamonte, and Adah Keira Gorriceta – girls’ team synchronized kata; Elianah Marie Contiga – 10-11 year old advanced kata; and Shanzel Vallejera – 8-9 year old intermediate kata./ASC, WDJ
