The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) announced they will be planning an experimental re-rerouting for public utility jeepneys (PUJs) operating along the southern portion of the city. According to a request by BTAO head, Lt. Colonel Luisito Acebuche, earlier approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, the plan would affect jeepneys operating in Barangays Punta Taytay, Sum-ag, Tangub, Singcang-Airport, and Magsungay.
Acebuche anticipates the plan to commence on September 1, if Father M. Ferrero Street, which runs between SM City Bacolod and the Manokan Country complex, is cleared of obstructions. He explained, they are unable to begin their plans if there are obstructions and said they are currently awaiting an affirmative from the City Legal Office.
Once the traffic scheme is put into place, southbound PUJs will enter the public transport terminal at the corner of Father M. Ferrero-Burgos Streets, beside the Bacolod Vendors’ Plaza. Upon reaching the corner of Gatuslao-Rizal Streets, jeepneys will be directed towards South Capitol Road, then turn left at Ayala Capitol Central Mall, turn left at San Juan Street, and turn right onto Burgos Street towards the terminal.
“The purpose of rerouting is to ensure that the southbound passengers will enter Ferrero Street,” he explained.
The public transport terminal was previously suggested for southbound PUJs; however, commuters found it difficult to reach the terminal./DGB, WDJ
